Question:
Incision Infected

HELP!! I went to the doctor today (3 1/2 weeks post op) and I have an infection in my incision. The doctor dug in my draining hole and made it 25 inches deep to be packed. Has anyone else had a large deep incision to be packed and how long can I expect it to take to heal. He said if I aren't better by Wed. he will put me in the hospital with IV antibotics.    — Judy W. Judy wheni had my faloping tube reoved it got infected were i had been cut open and the dr re opened me in office an no pain medsbut ay ways it was very deep i had to have home health nurses come 2xs a day for a mth had to heal from inside out they cleaned it and packed it very visit plus was on antiboctic and pain med

Hi Judy Wilson (thats my daughter's name!).. I had an open incision that I had to have home health pack twice a day for 2 months. (Packed with long strips of gauze dipped in an acidic saline by prescription only) It was big enough and deep enough to fit your fist in there (sorry to be so graphic). It wasn't necessarily painful.. just pressure during packing. It sucks but it'll be over soon enough, you'll see... Good luck!
