Question:
Has anyone ever had to get a second opinion on a psych consult?
I had a psych consult with a man who didn't look at me and judged everything I said. I felt he wasn't listening but looking for something. This made me nervous. He turned me down for surgery and told me I have more than one disorder. I asked for my MMPI results and notes. He sent me notes but not the MMPI. I requested it and still have not received. I went to another PHD. and had a completely different report. I felt that this person listened and asked proper questions. She put me at ease the minute I sat down. I did however, take the MMPI all over again. Has anyone had this happen to them? — Linda K. (posted on May 20, 2002)

Yes I needed two, but for different reasons. I've been going to counselling
for depression for many years. And every three months to the physcharist
for meds. Anyway, I had a long talk with my physcharist and he was all for
the WLS. However my insurance really wanted to deny me so they made me see
"their boy". Who was a real horses A. So he not only gave me alot
of trouble, but waited 8-9 weeks to write up the report. I'd probally still
be waiting on the report if I had'nt started calling every few days.

This could be my exact story to a T. The first Dr. seemed to just care
about my IQ and not why I was really there. He gave me a terrible report and
said things about me he had no way of knowing because he didn't aske me
jack crap.Of course what he said wasn't true. He gave me a partial version
of the MMPI.His report stated that i wanted surgery for other reasons than
what I was saying. He ultimatly said I just wanted surgery because my mom
had it. Duh! She had great success with it and because of her I know more
about it than he even did. I requested another Dr. and it was like day and
night. He actually talked to me and gave me the full MMPI. He was in
complete support of my decision. I'm glad I went to someone else.
