Question:
What were you post-ops eating at 1 week out from surgery?
I am now one week post-op and was wondering what everybody else was eating at this time after your surgery and what were the amounts? I only eat 1oz of cottage cheese 3 times per day and 1 oz of protein shake (makes me gag) 2 times per day and Im sooooo listless. Any info would be great..Thanks Guys — mastrnservnt (posted on May 14, 2002)

I was only on clear liquids. Beef broth was my favorite choice.
Jello, broth 50/50 juice, sugar free popsicles and my protein drink. I
found GNC Designer chocolate worked for me and still does. I didn't do
cottage cheese until the soft diet stage. My doctor was pretty strict, he
wanted to be sure I was able to change eating habits.
Good luck!

Hi, don't you have a sheet that the doc sent home with you from the
hospital? What stage are you on? You mentioned cottage cheese, so I'd
assume you are already on pureed foods. I wasn't put on pureed foods until
after the 2nd week. But, if you are, try adding some fruit gerber first
foods baby food, just 1/2 of that little jar to your cottage cheese. I was
eating mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, cream of chicken soup strained and
made with milk, jello, and sugar free puddings. Good luck.

First week was clear liquids, then two weeks of full liquids, then two
weeks of pureed foods, then whatever I wanted. I honestly never paid
attention to the ammount that I was eating, still dont. I just eat slow
and stop when I'm full. Works for me. As for what you said about feeling
listless, I did too. I called my surgeon on that one. He said to drink
more water and have a glass of apple or white grape juice once or twice
each day. That somehow your electrolytes go haywire or something. I didnt
understand but followed orders. It took a couple of days, but I felt fine.

I ate pureed carrots, eggs and yogurt in the hospital, and ate those things
in the first week too. The eggs didn't appeal to me, so I have stayed away
from them. Other things I ate include yogurt, mashed potatoes, sugar-free
chocolate popcicles, jello, applesauce, green beans, cracker with peanut
butter, cracker with chicken of the sea mixed with a little mayo, canned
fruits. Please follow your doctors plan if he gave you one. I was never
on liquids or had to puree anything, so yours may be different.
