Question:
Has anyone ever been turned down for the roux-en-y for having a lap nissen done.
I had a lap nissen done to repair a hiatia hernia. Has any one been turned down for the roux-en-y surgery after having this procedure done? or is this something the surgeon will have to determine after they maybe do a cat scan to see how much of the stomach is involved? I am personally not familiar with the specifics, but I believe that about 6
months ago, someone on this site was turned down for the RNY but had the
DS/BPD. She had had the procedure you mentioned and this is what her
surgeon decided would be safest for her. Shelley

I had the Nissan done in conjunction with my VBG in 1997. I was able to
get a revision from VBG to RNY in 2/00. Dr. Ferrari wasn't happy to see
that I had the Nissan and he said it would make my revision more
technically challenging but he did it anyway. As far as I can tell he
didn't take the Nissan down but I am still unable to throw up from the
lower stomach. Hope this helps!

I had a lap nissen done in 99 for a hiatal hernia and GERD. My Dr has
asked me to get more information on this as there is none out there and no
real stats. I contacted 2 doctors he recommended at Emory and U VA,
Commonwealth, and one Dr from VA said he has done them but the risks and
complications go up 3 fold. The nurse from the Emory Dr. said he has done
lots and lots of them, no real numbers, but that they, Emory, are the
referral center for hard and complicated bariatric surgeries and that while
it is more technically advanced and difficult for the doctor, it was still
doable. I am hoping my Dr in Charleston SC will do the procedure, but I
can tell you after my 1st consult with him today, I was scared to death
after he talked about the risks of death because of the lap nissen. I am
still waiting on info. If I get more info, I will pass it on.
Good luck everyone.
