Question:
Pain after eating - the reason is?
I am 6 weeks post-op and while traveling this past weekend I got the most awful feeling after eating. I have had no problems at all with eating until now. We stopped at Wendy's and I had 2 chicken nuggets and a couple tiny bites of chili (I have heard these work good for a lot of WLS post-ops and wanted to give them a try). I chewed very well and everything seemed fine for about 15 minutes and then I felt something strange happening in my pouch. For about an hour it felt like I was being stabbed. On a 1-10 scale the pain was about a 6 (I have a pretty high pain threshold). I have never dumped and this was not dumping from what I understand. Did I eat too much? Was something stuck? I did have some diarrhea after I got home. Lots more gas then usual too. Just curious what you guys think. Thanks! — [Anonymous] (posted on January 6, 2002)

I too have encountered this God awful pain and finally came to the
conclusion that it was because I had not chewed up something small enough
and it was stuck. I try to be careful and make sure everything is chewed up
well but we're not perfect. It's bound to happen at least once. I started
eating with a seafood fork and this has helped a great deal because you can
only get a little bite on it to begin with. As long as it passes within a
few hours, I wouldn't worry about it but if it happens often and for days
in a row, I would see my doctor. Good luck!

Oh God... this has happened to me at just over a week post op and it was
followed by black bowel movements for several days... I told my doc and he
thinks i got something stuck... but is going to check me out anyway. It
happened again today, and I can't understand what is going on...I haven't
had any black stool yet with this time, but I am looking!!!
I get to see him (my surgeon) this week, so I will let you know what
happens to me...okay? Good luck, and tell your surgeon!!!
