Question:
Anyone get irritable bowel after having surgery?
I've been struggling with a terrible burning pain in my abdomen and low back since my surgery 2 years ago. The pain is somewhat relieved by taking Zelnorm, which is a medication for irritable bowel disease. Has anyone had any type of ongoing bowel problem (but not obstructions) since their gastric bypass? I'd love to hear your story. — Christine L. (posted on February 22, 2004)

I am currently going through the same thing. I have been having this
problem for about a month now. It is slowly getting better as a result of
taking Flagyl and now a baratric enzyme. But the main symptom i have been
having is very bad gas, which is causing the pain and cramps. I am about a
year out.

Christine, try posting your question over at the yahoo OSSG grad group too.
Everyone over there is over a year post-op and some very wise people
there-you can only post if over a year post-op so you qualify. I have
bouts of irritable bowel syndrome on occasion but doesn't sound like what
you have. A burning pain and low back pain doesn't sound like it. I get
stomach cramps that come in waves of gripping pain and I have to sit on the
toilet until its all over (all I will say is diahrea but no graphic
details!!)
