Question:
What are my chances for an Appeal?
My insurance is Anthem BC/BS, which does cover WLS. The Co. I work for has dropped WLS from their insurance package that they offer d/t various complications in the past. I called the benefits dept of my corperation and asked what I could do. The woman told me to write a letter with my reasoning to desire WLS and try to get them to change thier mind. Since as short time ago as two years they covered WLS, and I am not a high risk -- I'm a "lightweight" ( 109 lbs to lose), I don't have heart problems and I heal quickly -- I wondered if anyone had a hopeful word for me. Are my chances good? I could really use some positive thoughts my way! — Erin P. (posted on November 27, 2003)

Have you actually been denied yet? The company I worked for also exclued
ANY type of treatment for obesity - surgery or otherwise. I was so ready
for a fight. I got all my ducks in a row and only had to submit once. If
it is said that it is medically necessary for you to lose this weight you
may have a better chance! Hang in there, insurance companies are tough but
they can be beat!
