Question:
Is ther a time frame between your endoscopy and surgery or does it not matter?
I had my Endoscopy on August 30th and am scheduled to see the doctor on September 3rd for my surgery date. I was just wondering if there was a time frame the doctors like to work in when scheduling bother procedures. And also did anyone else have trouble with their endoscopy, the medicine would not take affect and I was wake during the whole thing. — Tricia A. (posted on September 4, 2002)

It doesn't matter about spacing them. The medication given for an upper
endoscopy is not to make you sleep. It is a "conscious sedation"
medication. You need to be "awake" so you can cooperate with
swallowing the tube. If you appeared comfortable and didn't have trouble he
wouldn't of increaced your medication. If you did appear uncomfortable
thrashing around and/or gagging he should of increaced the meds slowly as
the symptoms subside and you relax. Some people opt for no medication (not
recommended) and do fine. People just think they are "out"
because it has an amnesia effect.
