Question:
Has anyone had an iron infusion?If so did it correct the problem?

I had an iron infusion. I am almost 2yrs post op. I was wondering if it corrected the problem. I am hoping I won't need another. I take my vitamins everyday. I also take iron. The doctor said I was serverely anemic.    — [Anonymous] (posted on December 6, 2001)

This isn't an answer I am just wondering what an iron infusion is exactly? Is it like through IVs?

Yes it is through the IV's. It is like having an blood transfusion but it is Iron.

You didn't say what kind of iron you were taking, but perhaps a different form of iron will help you maintain once you get up & running again.

I just had an iron infusion Wednesday - August 7th. The next day I was completely out of it. Slept 36 hours straight only geting up to go to the bathroom and force myself to eat something. I was taking a prescribed iron supplement also but the hematologist did an Iron Absorbption test on me and I am absorbing absolutely no iron orally. That is why I have to have infusions once or twice a year for life.
