Question:
For three days I have had this pain in my left side...

at first I thought maybe it was a gas pain, but after three days I'm not sure! When I get to work I am going to call my doctor.. but I just wanted to know if any of you have had this? It is on my left side, around my hip and waist. It is the worst when I take a deep breath.. kinda like a burning sensation.    — Jen S. (posted on August 31, 2001)

I had that same pain for a few days around 2 weeks post. I called and was told it was normal. They told me I could take children's liquid tylenol.

I had my surgery 8-20-01 and a few days ago also developed a pain on my lower left side. It is minimal but felt when I sometimes take a deep breath. At first I thought it was gas until it seemed to get a little worse. My Dr sent me for an Xray which showed a buildup of fluid around the outside of my left lung, infection. From the way it was explained to me, it is common to have a fluid lining around the lungs, I just seemed to have developed an infection. I am now on an 7 day antibiotic which I have to chew or chop up before taking.

I have had the exact same thing, I believe it is quite common. As I have heard it explained before, it is probably your stomach healing. I am 7 weeks post-op and the pain has finally subsided. As always, talk to your doctor first since it could be something else (as the previous poster wrote).
