Question:
My surgery was scheduled for 11/00 but delayed until this
October. My psych eval is over a year old. Is it necessary to have a new one? I have no mental health issues and I do not relish the thought of paying out another $300 for an unnecessary test. Suggestions or advice welcome especially if you are familiar with BC/BS requirements. thank you. Kathy — kathleen S. (posted on August 17, 2001)

You say your psych eval is over a year old, so it's possible that the ins
may ask for a current one. BCBS usually requests the eval and I believe
it's good for 1 year only. But you say that you were denied because the DS
is considered investigational, it wasn't because you didn't have a current
psych eval, so maybe it's not necessary. Your best bet is to check with the
ins co for confirmation. Good luck with your appeal.
