Question:
Any one having pregnancy problems?

I had my surgery February 2000. I was pregnant in September of 2000 and had a miscarriage when I was 6 weeks pregnant. Then in January of 2001 I found out I was pregnant. After 9 weeks I had another miscarriage. Now I am pregnant again. I have been experiencing some bleeding and will go for an ultrasound tomorrow. Is there anyone out there who is post-op who has had trouble carrying a child? If so, did you find out what was the cause from your doctor and/or it was related to having the surgery. Please email me at [email protected] or my husband Irvington at [email protected]. thanks, Lori Thomas    — Lori G. (posted on July 19, 2001)

My doctor instructed me to wait atleast a full year (if not 2 actually) before getting pregnant. He said it's too much of a risk to the development of the baby. Although I've read where others have had no problems with pregnancy with in 12 months of surgery. Good luck.

Hi Lori, I'm so sorry about your losses. I too have had losses, but before WLS. Maybe your losses aren't related to WLS. I had a complete workup by my ob/gyn - Hysterosalpingogram(HSG), Endometrialbiopsy, and loads of blood work (sorry my spelling isn't correct). Everything came back normal except for one blood test. I tested positive for Lupus anticoagulant. This is not Lupus but can indicate a kind of autoimmume disorder called Antiphospholipid Syndrome. I had this blood test performed 3x and tested positive each time. Many women have this disorder and don't even know it. Many doctors fail to test for it. He said my treatment for a future pregnancy will be a baby aspirin everyday, and heparin injections. But this is in my case. Every MD is different. Best of luck to you, and in the future have your doctor do a complete workup.....Leslie

I am So sorry for you losses. I KNOW where you are at because I have lost too. I have NOT had the WLS yet so I can't give you info on weather or not it is related but I DID however have a total of 7 miscarriages all of which happened before 13 weeks. I went through all of the testing with nothing showing up as abnormal. I did have a borderline low progesterone count (probably related to PCOS...which is usually very connected to weight problems) We finally decided that we wanted to be parents more than we wanted to give birth and started to adopt. While we were in the process of adopting my son Z. I got pregnant again. (Since I could get pregnant but just not carry we weren't too excited) Well the unimaginable happened and I DID stay pregnant and my son G was born 5 months after his brother Z. The only thing that I did differently in this pregnancy was bedrest from the moment I knew that I was pregnant until 3 months had passed. There are several studies linking stress to miscarriage but no conclusive evidence. I had been a teacher in a rather stressful middle school setting but was not teaching the year I was successful with the pregnancy. When I asked my OB about the idea he kind of pooh-poohed it but I did it anyways. I would only get up to take a shower or go to the bathroom. I would GREATLY incourage you to do research on your own about stress and relaxation as related to miscarriage as well as check out non-traditional medicine if you are open to that. I can't tell you that it will work for you but I KNOW that it did for me. My living proof is 3 years old now! I hope you are blessed with the information that you are looking for to keep this from ever happening to you again. No one should EVER have to go through that.
