Question:
What are the most important ??s I can ask my surgeon on initial consult?

tomorow is my initial consult & I'm very exicted/nervous. Have a bmi of 36, hypertension, stress urinary incontinence, chronic low back pain and depression. Have about 100 lbs to lose. Hi Julie, Based on your BMI you might have a slight problem getting a surgeon to approve you for WLS. Of course your co-morbids are potentially life threatening so a good surgeon will take that into consideration. I would suggest the LapRNY but that's just my personal preference. Your surgeon will discuss with you the procedure(s) he/she performs. I would ask your surgeon what his/her's statistics are as far as performing the surgery. Ask how many they have done. Check their creditials...you wouldn't believe how many "fly by night" doctors take a 6 hour course and then try to go and do these WLS surgeries. Ask the surgeon if he/she anticipates any complications based on your specific situation. One of the most, if not the most, important things is follow up care and nutritional counseling. Make sure the surgeon's office or facility offers that!!! Good luck!
