Question:
If you rupture the staples in your stomach, would you be able to tell?
I was horrid & ate a small piece of pizza last night but not the crust. I was carefull to take small bites & chew well...it took me nearly a half hour to finish it. Now I am worried that it may have been too much food for my tiny pouch & I may have caused damage. Would I be in pain if something was wrong or could a ruptured staple line go un noticed? — [Anonymous] (posted on September 7, 2000)

I have eaten pizza a few times (had surgery on 6/7/00) I don't see anything
"horrible" with this as long as we don't eat it all the time. I
even made a homemade turkey bacon one with very thin crust. I also ate a
veggie pizza from IMO's (very thin crust) that lasted several meals. As
long as you didn't stuff yourself with it and stopped when you were full I
don't see what it would hurt. Down 57 lbs.

I eat pizza about once a week lately. My surgery was 6/21/00. I eat one
small piece and am completely satisfied.
Used to be I wasn't satisfied unless I had a large pizza all for myself!

No, one piece will not kill you and certainly not stretch your pouch..
Listen to your inner voice telling you when enough is enough...Like I
have said many times I eat what ever I'm in the mood for and if it's
pizza then I will eat a small slice.. Usually a very small slice that alone
fills me rather quickly. ;-) I don't make pizza a normal thing I do on
a regular basis, I have had it maybe 3 times in 8 months.. I tend to
crave more protein type meals, steak, poultry, seafood.. I consider the
pizza crust just empty calories so seems such a waste to me.. Give me a
4 oz New York Strip anytime yummmy!!!

No, you would not likely to have pain. "Weight creep" is usually
the signal. I had pain, but it was acid running amok. Most don't have that.
One little error probably won't undo you, but if you make a habit of it,
well, that could be dangerous. This is one time where you don't get extra
points for cleaning your plate! You get extra points for leaving something
there!

WLS is like no diet I've ever been on before. Prior to this, cheese and
red meats were definite no-nos. Indulging in such would definitely cause
the guilt to creep in, followed by self-recrimination and finally apathy.
Then the weight would pile back on - I'll always be fat anyway, so why not
eat the whole pizza? One of the things we need to do is to stop the
"I'm being good, I'm being bad" cycle - this in itself is much
more destructive than an occasional small piece of pizza, which if not
loaded with Italian sausage and pepperoni, is a good choice for us. Love
yourself!!!!
