Question:
Is there anything to do to stop the itching of your incision as it heals?
I am ine week post op & the itching caused by my staples is driving me crazy. Is there a way to lessen this? I put some A&D ointment on it which helped, but now I can't seem to wash all of it off. Some of the white residue is still ander a few of the staples. I should have known better, but it was driving me mad! Will this cause any problems? — [Anonymous] (posted on September 4, 2000)

If you need to put something on to help stop the itch, first ask your Doc,
cause once you start putting things on the wound site and if you have any
open tissue, this will slow down the healing process and might cause an
infection. There are great meds out there you can use, you can ask the doc
about Cortisone 10, this is a great cream, but again becarefull, good luck
and congrats on your new life!!!!!!

The itch comes from your skin healing, so it is really a good thing!
A&D ointment is the best to decrease scarring or just puncture a Vit E
capsule and use the oil from that. BE VERY CAREFUL with antibiotic creams
(Neosporin) and steroids (Cortisone 10). They have side effects that the
more natural products do not. Congrats on the surgery and great healing to
you!

Itching is normal but if it bothersome try warm moist compresses and oral
Benaadryl, check with your doc before adding anthing topical.
