Is there anything to do to stop the itching of your incision as it heals?

I am ine week post op & the itching caused by my staples is driving me crazy. Is there a way to lessen this? I put some A&D ointment on it which helped,but now I can't seem to wash all of it off. Some of the white residue is still ander a few of the staples. I should have known better,but it was driving me mad! Will this cause any problems?
