My Doctor inform me that this is the type of surgey he will give me. All of the research I have done it show me that this surgery dont work after a period of time. I dont know if I should have it. He is to removed my hiatial hernial also. I'm thinking about having the hernial surgery and say the heck with the other one. I need your help on this. Lorine, You don't seem too comfortable with this surgery. Is there a specific reason why your surgeon wants to perform VBG? Is it the only surgery that your insurance covers? Or, is it the only surgery that your surgeon performs? Bottom line, this is YOUR life. You've got to do what's best for you. There are other surgery options. If you're not comfortable with your surgeon's assessment, maybe you should investigate other options. Obviously, this site has a wealth of information. If you're interested in investigating the DS procedure, check out duodenalswitch.com. I had the RNY and it's been awesome for me, but I'm a firm believer in just giving enough information so others can do their own research and come to their own conclusions. Good luck!

I think you're wise to check it out. We are involved in many support groups here locally. Several hundred people have had both types of surgery now. Comparing the two lifestyles, people VASTLY prefer life and wt loss results with RNY over VBG. If it was up to me, I'd drive a little further to perhaps only do it once.

Definately research longer! there is a lot to learn about these surgeries. They all have the potential to work/fail. One word of advise.........Don't go have the hernia repair and then 2 years later decide you want WLS. Better to have surgery once! Good Luck
