Question:
I m confused, transecting, staples sutures seperating
Ithought that a RNY was seperating stomach and stapling it and suturing it aswell. Also if stomach is not transected will it not close where all the staples are put anyway. How much of a risk is there with not transecting and pouch stretching. Is the fobi method with transecting or not. — Nathalie C. (posted on August 6, 2000)

Hmm, Dr Fobi does transect, yes. Your question was a bit hard for me to
follow, so I hope I am answering what you asked. If you are stapled and
oversewn, no matter how many rows, no matter what material is used, yes,
there is a possibility that your staple line will disrupt. Mine did and
no, I never out ate it. If you are transected, aside from the risk of the
first few days post-op (like with any WLS), there is NO chance of
disruption. Or if so it is in our part of the world here. Once my staple
line disrupted, I preferred my stomach to be removed, rather than left in
place. But that was simply becuase I had a life long history of ulcer. My
thinking was that since they were in there ANYWAY, fixing, may as well get
rid of that pesky bugger before it caused me even more trouble than it had
for 30 yrs! Your pouch is going to stretch anyway, but the degree and the
timing depend entirely on your post-op eating patterns. The ideal is to
hold yourself to very tiny meals until goal wt is reached.
