Question:
What can I do if I have to move soon after surgery?
My surgery date is March 5 with Dr. Celio Burrowes. I am scheduled to leave the US for Turin, Italy April 16 where I will be with my husband until October 31 and then fly back. I am also planning to come back in August for a brief visit. I know that I can't really know until my pre-op visit 2/25, but how often will he want to see me after the surgery? If I am healthy when I leave the US, how likely is it that something godawful will happen and what can I do to prevent it? WORRIED, but don't want to give up the time in Italy. — alecsnana (posted on February 17, 2004)

Well, I didnt look at your profile, and you didnt say lap or open. BUT for
time frame lets say open. Your leaving 6 weeks after surgery. THIS should
be enough time (barring any complications) NORMALL return to work is
ususally 6 weeks. so your fine there! Then at least mine, wanted to see
you again at 3 months, 6 months etc. I would think you could fit those in
when you return. AND god forbid anything should happen; I would assume you
have insurance (they ususally cover emergencis... even out side the country
and YOUR in europe - you'd have 'access' to some of the 'best' bariatric
surgeons in the world if it came to that.. I would say 'enjoy' your trip!

Is your husband in the military, is that why you are going to Italy? My
husband was stationed in Italy while in the Navy. You will have to bring
your medical records with you so that the doctor's over there can try to
help you withyour needs. This is a special situation and you must make
sure that they will be able to facilitate your health needs, or you will
have such trouble that you will be required to return home. E-mail me with
any further questions. [email protected]
