Question:
weight loss after pregnancy
I am so aggrivated with myself! I am 3.5 years post op now & just had a baby in July. I pretty much ate what I wanted while pregnant & managed to gain 88 pounds back of the 220 I had lost since surgery. Stupid to do,I know, because I ate WAY too many carbs. I have only lost 20 pounds of what I gained & am stuck at 220. God,I swore I would never be at 200 again & here I am...kicking myself! I am wondering,if I up my protien & water, decrease the carbs & start getting serious about exercise,is it possible to lose the weight? Before I found out I was pregnant,I was scheduled for a consult for a TT. Obviuosly I will have to lose this weight before I can even consider it now.I am afraid I have ruined everything. I do not want to be stuck here again & am hoping some serious discipline will be able to fix what I have done. Any suggestions? — melmas (posted on January 6, 2004)

Hi Melissa,
Congratulations on your baby! I didn't have a baby after WLS but I did
have to be put on hormones and I gained 15 pounds (I think I gained it
before I even left his office -ha!). Anyway, I am in the process of losing
it and have a few tools that have been helpful to me. #1. Supplement
protein - I have heard that if you are in serious weight loss mode you
should supplement one gram of protein for each pound of your desired final
weight. So, I am supplement 130 grams a day and also eating protein first.
This has been very helpful with the cravings! (If you are nursing you'd
surely want to check with your pediatrician to see if this is o.k.) #2. I
started an e-group on yahoo. It's a support group but more than that it's
an accountability group. Members are supposed to post their food journal
every day. Other members then can help out by giving helpful hints or just
support. Here's the address if you'd like to join:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/GetBOT/ It's sure been helpful for
me, knowing I have to confess everything I eat! #3. I spent about 2 weeks
thinking about getting back on track. I prepared myself emotionally and
physically and told myself that I was worth being healthy and losing the
weight I'd gained. I did everything to prepare, cleansed the house, had a
last supper, talked about it with others who are looking to get back on
track. It hasn't been easy but it's most assuredly worth it. You can do
it - I KNOW YOU CAN!
