Question:
Need quick weight loss ideas
I am required by my insurance to lose 5% of my weight before they will submit my paperwork for approval. I meet with my nutritionist on 11/17 for a weigh-in and to put the paperwork in. By then, I must lose at least 10 lbs., preferably 12 to be absolutely sure there's no difference on scale weight. Any suggestions on how to get this weight off without going crazy the next 2 weeks? — antiques55 (posted on November 2, 2003)

Protein and veggies only. Worked for me to drop 21 lbs in the 2 weeks
before surgery. The goal wasn't to lose weight, just chrink my liver but
it worked for both.

Lean protein, LOTS OF WATER! You'll be swimming for the next two weeks but
you'll get it off. I had to do the same thing as you, had to loose 10
pounds, doing the diet thing and the pre surgery bowel prep I lost almost
14. Water! Exercise, cardio not muscle. Good luck!

Eats lots of protein, a bowl of salad, lots of water, breads, pastas,
fruits. This is a plateau breaking diet my doctor uses. Good luck! I
also lost 7 lbs in one week on the cabbage soup diet. 10 lbs in one week
on the Richard Simmons Deal-A-Meal jump start program, problem always was
to keep it off, but you will have the surgery by then to help you keep it
off..... good luck!! ((((hugs)))

hi,
well there has been lots of success for those wanting quick weight loss,
its a week long program but one can follow it for a couple of weeks...it
does take self control but does work,,,
The Cabbage Soup Diet Plan
Eat as much cabbage soup as you desire for seven days and you can lose 10
to 15 pounds. The recipe varies slightly, but includes a variety of
low-calorie vegetables such as cabbage, onions, and tomatoes, flavored with
bouillon, onion soup mix, and tomato juice. Each day of the seven-day
program has specific foods that must be eaten, including potatoes, fruit
juice, many vegetables, and on one day, beef.
Day One:
Eat only fruit, all the fruit you want except banana.
Drink unsweetened tea, black coffee, cranberry juice, and water.
Eat as much soup as you like.
Day Two:
All you want - fresh, raw, or cooked vegetables of your choice. Stay away
from dry beans, peas, and sweet corn. Reward yourself with a big baked
potato with butter for dinner. Eat as much soup as you like but no fruit
for today.
Day Three:
Combine days one and two, eat as much fruit, vegetables, and soup, as you
like but no baked potato.
Day Four:
Eat as many as eight bananas and drink as many glasses of skim milk as you
would like on this day, along with your soup. This day is supposed to
lessen your desire for sweets.
Day Five:
You may have 10-20 ounces of beef (300-500g) and a large tin or up to six
fresh tomatoes. Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water this day to wash the
uric acid from your body. Eat your soup at least once today. You may eat
broiled or baked chicken (skinless) instead of beef. If you prefer, you can
substitute broiled fish for the beef.
Day Six:
Eat beef and vegetables today. You can even have two or three steaks if you
like, with fresh vegetables or salad. NO BAKED POTATO. Eat your soup at
least once.
Day Seven:
Eat all you want of brown rice, unsweetened fruit juices, and vegetables.
Be sure to eat your soup at least once to day. No bread, alcohol, or
carbonated beverages, not even diet

Do a low carb diet, like Atkins. (or even south beach diet) Mostly eating
meat, eggs, dairy and green vegetables. here's a link to the FAQ for a
low carb newsgroup, lots of great information.

I always read about this. May I ask why some surgeons make you do this?
As for recommendation, I was told not to gain any weight because the
surgery table only held up to 350 lbs and I was at 339. I ate what I
wanted but in smaller quantities and walked 20 minutes every day. I
actually lost 7 pounds prior to surgery but gained 10 of water weight in
the hospital.

Myra: It's not the surgeon who is asking for this in my case, it's the
insurance company - Kaiser. I guess it's their way to make sure you have
the commitment to lose the weight and also to help get you healthier before
surgery. I know Kaiser in California requires a 10% weight loss so I guess
I should feel grateful. I've decided to do the Atkins Induction Phase and
really push the water to try and get 100 oz in each day. If that doesn't
seem to be working quickly enough, I'm going to do something similar to a
new post-op's diet. I have to do 3 days of the post-op diet before I meet
with my nutritionist anyway (another lovely Kaiser requirement) so I may as
well do a week of it (protein drinks, clear liquids, water & no more
than 600 calories). It will be starvation for me and without the small
pouch to keep me from feeling hungry, but I have come too far to have a
short stint of dieting keep me from WLS. Wish me luck!
