Question:
I've been told many times bcbs is getting very strict on paperwork

I have my first appt Sept 15 with the surgeon and I already have all my information for the insurance. I wanted to know should I also included other items such as my quickweight loss profile from 95, copies of medications, my own personal letter and etc . Everyone keeps telling me bcbs have gotten really tough and you have to have more than what is needed to get approval. I'm trying my best to get approved on the first try if possible.    — shae7755 (posted on August 25, 2003)

Hi! I have BC/BS Health Options and I had my surgery 2-19-03. I was denied the first time for lack of 12 months supervised diet info. I was able to dig up 8 months worth, and that, along with TONS of appeal letters from myself, family and friends, I was approved! I had a Teleconference appeal hearing set up and one hour before, the Insurance company called and told me the good news. My suggestion is to basically bombard them with everything you have and be persistant with them. If you call, get the date, time, name and extention of the person you spoke with and keep records. You might get denied at first, so don't be surprised if you do. I know many people with BC/BS and they were all denied the first time too. Get together anything and everything you have.. it can only help you in the long run!! Good Luck! (6 months post-op, -102 pounds)
