Question:
When your stomach is empty do you burp more often?
I am 4 weeks post-op and have recently had more gas than before. Since surgery it has been bad but has got increasingly worse the last week. I seem to always be burping and have noticed the burping is even more often and severe when I haven't eaten anything. Has anyone had issues with this? I have wondered if I am accidently gulping air throughout the day, it is really getting annoying not to mention a bit painful. Thanks for the help. Cindy — Cindy M. (posted on July 14, 2003)

I have a tendency to burp more after eating. I am not a very quiet burper
and it can be embarrassing. But I'll take a burp over the other!

I'm still pre-op, but when I am hungry, or have a very empty stomach, I
burp terribly.. not big ones, just little, but frequent... like you say, it
feels like too much air in the tummy....not sure what to suggest, except
maybe drinking water to have something in the stomach...

Cindy......I am also 4 weeks post-op and I find that I burp like crazy when
I have finished eating and am full.
Sometimes the gas hurts and I need to burp to feel better.

Cindy, I am about 3 months post-op and for a few months I burped a lot
before, after and during eating/drinking. I found that it's not unusual for
post-op's. Now it's just air bubbleing up but it doesn't come out like a
burp. Also, if it's painful gas in the abdomen, try to pay attention to
what you are eating and see if that is what's causing. Your doc can
probably give you something if it's not the food causing the gas. Good
luck to you.

Between my 2nd and 3rd months, I did burp when my pouch was empty. I
remember telling my sister! It doesn't happen now, though. Thanks for the
reminder!! : ) Stay happy!

I had this exact same thing happen and it drove me INSANE. It was a
constant burping, like 20 in a row. My surgeon called me in some Prevacid
to take once a day and since 30 minutes after taking the first one, it's
stopped.
