Question:
Kaiser requirements - what are they??
I have Kaiser Mid-Atlantic and I've seen this same question gone unanswered on the boards. I've been with Kaiser 4 months and would like to know if they will, no ifs, ands or buts, require me to be on the plan 1 year and go through the 6 months of meetings with a nutritionist. My BMI is 52 and I have a number of co-morbidities. I haven't even been to see my PCP for anything yet, so I'm wondering how my request for WLS referral will be viewed. Thanks! — antiques55 (posted on April 19, 2003)

I have Kaiser Mid-Atlantic. They are pretty stringent with their
guidelines. I haven't been on the plan for a whole year yet. That wasn't
one of my requirements. I am currently seeing the nutritionist and have 2
more visits to go. I tried to fight with an appeal. They denied my appeal
but they sent me a letter stating that once I successfully completed the
nutritionist visits that they would approve me. I have already completed
the other requirements such as the Nutrition for Weight Loss Class, psych
eval and attempts at weight loss. I hope this helps. My only advice is to
just find out exactly what it is that they require and do it before you
apply for approval.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to go see my PCP and just request that I be
referred. If I'm denied until I meet certain requirements, so be it. I'll
press on, do what they want me to and then resubmit.
