Question:
Did anyone have there neuropathy in there feet go away?
I have heard that some people who have diabetes, after surgery there diabetes goes into remission, I am pre-op, but have better control over my blood sugars, and some of my neuropathy in my feet has gone away, has anyone that has had diabetes go into remission, had there neuropathy also go away. — cindy (posted on March 25, 2003)

Hi Cindy! I am Type II Diabetic. I had my Lap RNY in December of 2002,
just a little under 4 months ago and I have lost 57 pounds so far. I was
taking 80-100 units of insulin each day before surgery, after many years of
oral meds not working. I have extreme neuropathy in my feet. While
recovering in the hospital, I had to have maybe 10 units of insulin, then
nothing else after I got out of the hospital! YAY! My blood sugars are
very much under control (there is still no cure). The neuropathy pain in
my feet was so much better right after surgery, but it has slowly returned.
I was taking 3,000 mg. of Neurontin before surgery and now I am taking
1,800 mg. daily. The pain IS better, but not gone completely. My
neurologist has told me that it is not reversible, but it does get better
if you keep your blood sugar under control, which is so easy to do after
this surgery. Best of luck and best of health to you!
