Question:
Can I lose 50lbs....again??????
I'm 5 years post op and for the past 2 years, I've been very lax. I went back to my old habits and I've regained 50 of the 150lbs. I lost. I'm angry with myself and I'm embarrassed and quite frightened. If I get back to basics, can I lose those 50 pounds...again? Does anyone have any personal experience in this area? I'd appreciate any support/info anyone can give me. — mandy S. (posted on March 5, 2003)

I am no expert in this by any means, but I am sure you can lose the 50 lbs
if you just take your own advice. I think you know what needs to be done
(get back to the basic, stop the grazing and get away from the sugar).
Find that article (Pouch Rules for Dummies) and practice the methods you
have been taught. I am rooting for you and I think you can do it. Keep us
updated and I will keep you in my prayers. Sincerely, Mary Beth

Mandy, I applaud you for taking the bull by the horns and deciding to stop
the weight loss now before it goes any further. I know you can do it. Its
mind over matter- a little hard work, and exercise, but your tool is still
there, its just not being used properly. You have pointed out what I wish
more pre-ops were told, if you stray too far from the Pouch rules, you WILL
regain the weight. This surgery is a tool and if you don't learn to use
the tool properly, you will not keep the weight off, which is, of course,
what we all want.

Mandy- I think it's great you realized what needed to be done. So now, you
gained 50lbs., but it wasn't all 150 of it back, so that is good, too. I am
still losing (9 months post-op) so don't have personal experience. But I've
read about others who have lost weight again. The bes way is to get
yourself on a 2 week liquid diet, just like when we were very early
post-ops. That can help "shrink" your stomach, or atleast give
the illusion of being smaller, so when you start eating again, you won't
need as much as before. And then stick to the basics, make sure you get
your protein first, then veggies, then carbs if there is room. I've also
heard it is much easier to lose weight again post-op than it was pre-op.
Goodluck to you, I know you can do it!

Have you asked your doctor about this? You still have your tool, so it
seems that it might still work for you! Good luck!
