Question:
i am 3 months post op and i have poly cystic ovarian.
has anyone had an increase in periods. i get 2 a month now. i was only off my birth control for a week after surgery and i dont know why i am getting them twice a month. i have PCOS and have lost 60 pounds in 3 months is this normal??? — amanda K. (posted on February 12, 2003)

Well- first off, being off your birth control for a week probably had
something to do with it- yes, you could have messed up your cycle; but the
fact that you are having two periods a month is more than likely due to the
stress of surgery, the rapid weight loss and the release of hormones (from
the fat) you've carried around for so long. You also may not be absorbing
the pill as much as before, perhaps you whould question your surgeon if
they feel a higher dosage could be warranted? Having the PCOS is more than
likely not a cause for the increase in your periods....
