Question:
What are my chances of losing all extra weight?
I went for my Pre-Op testing today and on their scales I weighed a whopping 286! If I only lose 60% of that, I will still be a big girl. What's my chance of losing more than 60%? I am having a Lap RNY on 02/12/2003...in 2 days! I was hoping to get back down to the 130 I weighed after having my 29 year old son. Is that silly? — Peggy B. (posted on February 10, 2003)

I started out at 268 wearing a size 24 and I figured that I would get down
to about 200 and wear about a 16. My goal was 160-170. Well I am now 146
and wear a size 4. So it can happen. Read my profile.

Over 2 years post op and am maintaining at 123 and a size 4/6. I started at
264 and lost to this weight at about 10 months post op. I've sustained this
loss nicely and effortlessly. You CAN do it!! Shelley

Surgery. This morning I weighed in at 159 lbs. and I'm a size 7-8. I too
would like to be 135 lbs. and believe I'll get there! SO CAN YOU!! GOOD

Hi Peggy -- you don't say what your height is, but working backwards from
your 49 BMI, I'm guessing its 5'4" or so? If so, your goal weight of
130 would give you a 22 BMI, which is within the so-called
"normal" range. :) I think you can do it, too. But I have to
say my weight loss, while rapid, has not been effortless. I've hit the gym
at least 4 times a week since I was 3 weeks post-op, and I watch what I eat
like a hawk. I started at 268, lost 12 pounds as a pre-op, and at 8+
months post-op and age 44, I'm at 152 lbs. (I'm 5'7"), closing in a
goal of 145-147 or so.

Only 60%....is that what your doctor said? I think the stats for RNY are
more like 80-90% of excess weight. The lap band only has a success rate of
50-60%. They do say that the surgery is a success when you loose 50% of
your excess weight. That was 80 pounds for me....not nearly enough. LOL
Good luck

Hi. I am the original poster to this question. I am 5'3" and I got the
60% from my surgeon's website. It has a 'thing' that calculates the weight
you could lose with the sugery. Thanks to everyone for the replies!!! :)
Everyone here is the BEST!
