Question:
has any other female had a problem of vaginal yeast infections after surgery
I have not had a yeast infection in I don't remember when, but boy do I have one now. I took a few days of Augmentin for an incision infection, but the MD took me off of them early and that was over a week ago. this wicked itch started a couple of days ago so, i am not real sure it is a result of the antibiotics and trust me there is NO action there to have caused it. Just wondering if it has to do w/ our diets now or what???? Either way, I took a Diflucan for it yesterday, but no relief as of yet. I hate to ask such, but after all if I can't ask yall who can I ask??? Thanks — Leigh S. (posted on January 14, 2003)

I used to work in a pharmacy and it was recommended to all women to take
acidopholis when taking antibiotics, antibacterials, or antifunguals. You
can get it in any pharmarcy and usually one a day will keep a yeast
infection away. I have tried it and it works!

Yup, me too. I came to this website to get some solutions - and haven't had
one since. I've always been a baby powder freak. Cornstarch babypowder to
help keep me dryer.... I didn't know this, but cornstarch actually
encourages yeast growth. I changed to Zeasorb, and then Lotrimin Powder
(for athletes foot and jock itch) no infections since! I use a little
powder every day.......The price is a little steep but worth every penney!

OMG, I had a killer yeast infection after surgery. I have always been prone
to them, but could usually avoid them by keeping away from certain toilet
papers and soaps. I was loaded with antibiotics so I'm sure that is what
caused it. I took an OTC med for it and and nothing and finally called for
some Diflucan. That took an extra day, but it did finally take care of it.
Good luck, I can sympathize with your pain.

I'm talented what can I say...after my surgery (not that long ago) I
managed to develop a yeast infection on the outside and a bacterial
infection on the inside. (I really am talented..*grin*) Still recovering
from both of them. Diflucan is God's gift to woman in my opinion. I also
got several other prescriptions. (I think my yeast infection was worse than
the other.) I can honestly say I've never been in this much pain. But my
doctor took a urine sample to see if I was perhaps having sugar in my
urine. But I had no sugar, no protein, etc, the only thing I tested for
was ketones.
You may actually need another dose of diflucan or something else. (Can't
remember the names of the other two things I got.) Good luck and take
care!

More than likely it is probably from the antibiotics. I know this has
happened to me before and it happened to my little girl after she was done
taking Amoxicillin for an ear infection. You can buy that new 1 dose stuff
that they have over the counter at the drugstore. That should clear it up
nicely.

I got both a vaginal yeast infection and thrush! I was on nystatin for 3
weeks and also used monistat. It was from all the antibiotics they stuffed
me with during and after surgery and the inhaler I had to use for my asthma
- I'm so glad to be past that!!

I've never had a yeast infection before, but after my laparoscopy in
October to get rid of my endometriosis I got a wound infection, and then
had to go on antibiotics. Then got a vaginal yeast infection and had to do
2 bouts of cream and a diflucan pill. I think I finally got rid of the
vaginal infection, but now I think I have thrush. So I'm seeing my GYN
tomorrow. I've never had problems with antiobiotics until after WLS. As a
matter of fact, I'm on a lot of medication right now, and I tend to have
more side effects than I did before WLS. So I have no idea why we have
these types of problems now. Maybe it has something to do with
mal-absorption. Good luck!

I am pretty sure that your infection is from the antibiotics. I got one
after having my gallbladder out. The dr. said that the antibiotics caused
it. My 4yr ended up with thrush after she was born. It was due to the
fact that I received antibiotics while I was in labor with her.

Diflucan can take 1 - 9 days to work. Try using a cream topically over the
counter. jenn-RN

I was having yeast infections almost every month with my period. I really
don't care for yogurt or buttermilk. Both will help with yeast infections.
I just started taking an acidophillus pill everyday. (this is the active
ingredient that prevents yeast infections in yogurt and buttermilk). I
haven't had a yeast infection since. You can buy it with the vitamins and
it is very inexpensive. It is also suppose to help with the balance of
bateria and yeast in your digestive system. Hope this helps..Oh. I also
insist the the DR give me a Diflucan along with the prescription for the
antibiotics...the yeast is usually worse than the infection that made you
sick in the first place.haha
