Question:
BCBS South Carolina and Mississippi

SC is through Winn Dixie, MS is through USM.....both have exclusions and was told absolutely will not pay for WLS...can anyone give me advise..or is my next step the Insurance Commisioner? HELP!!!!I need this surgery in the worse way!    — Tina T. (posted on January 14, 2003)

Hi Tina sorry your having so much trouble with bcbs. Did you call them personaly? I would start there. Let them know it is medecialy necessary and ask if a letter of recomendation would help. I have anthum bcbs of indiana and my insurance co through general motors. also some states have a law in that insurance companys must pay if it is medecialy necessary. Call the state insurance commission of the state in which you reside. Please dont give up fight it all the way. good luck

I have BCBS of SC through a NC employer. My policy states an exclusion also, but I was approved in 4 days on the first try because of "medical necessity." My surgeon submitted the information that I supplied to him, including a letter of support from my PCP, gyn/ob, rheumatologist & neurologist.
