Question:
If i do not have 12 supervised mth of diet history will i be denied by bcbs
I've already had my consult; the insurance corr. ask me to get 12mths of diet history from my pcp before she submits it to bcbs. I don't think my pcp has that. Will bcbs approve it without 12 mths? I think i may have about 6 mth. If i have my own list and have my pcp approve it will be enough for them? I nervous please help. — lalulan (posted on November 26, 2002)

hi there :) i too have bcbs, i know every bcbs probably varies from state
to state or group to group. this never was an issue with mine. they never
asked for anything like that. i had been on jeeny craig, weight watchers,
several of my own diets but i was scared id have no proof if needed. but i
did have a friend who is a dietician that worked with me and i would have
had her write me a letter if need be. if you know of any friends that are
dieticians, maybe they would be willing to help you if needed. best of luck
to you! :)

I also have bcbs and I was informally denied the first time because I
didn't have 12 months documented supervision...that was last Feb and I am
finally beginning to see the end of the tunnel..Jan 3 will be my last
supervised visit...they wouldn't budge with me or one of my co-workers.
Just remember, it is 12 calender months they look at (June to May), not
June to June. Hope you have better luck.

Hey there, I also have BC/BS and I never had a minutes prob. I was approved
with only high blood pressure, I had no dr supervised diets, and had only
tried things such as weight watchers, richard simmons, etc. I never
thought they would approve it but my doc sent everything in and I got the
approval, Good Luck

I have BCBS of Alabama. I did have to supply 12-months worth of diet
history. It didn't have to be "supervised" diets. I listed
everything I had EVER done to lose weight, and guessed at the dates. I went
back for years. I even listed starvation and how can you prove that?
Anyway, best of luck and best of health to you!~~SanDee

I had NO medical records. I had friends and family write letters on my
behalf and I listed all of the diets I had tried in the past. I was
approved no problem. Read my profile for more info. Good luck.

Supervised doesn't mean it has to be in your PCP's records. I listed every
diet I'd ever been on going back 30 years. I stated the diet, how long I
was on it, how much I lost, and then how much I regained (always more than
I lost). There was no way to verify any of it. I have BCBS of MA. and
they did not ask for more than that.
