Question:
Outside of US self-pay options

Does anyone have any experience/recommendations for self-pay WLS outside of the US? I am familiar with Dr. Baltasar's clininc in Spain. I also saw a post where someone posted having surgery in Mexico City. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of a comprehensive list of foreign self-pay WLS options?    — w8free (posted on November 26, 2002)

I had DS with Dr. Baltasar on June 5, 2002. He is wonderful! His website is www.drbaltasar.com. THere is also a Yahoo group for his patients.

Hi! I had my lap RNY distal in MOnterray, Mexico. I had a good experience. I am also a RN. I was only off of work for 1.5 weeks.

I self paid and had my surgery on 1/17/03 with Dr. Alejandro Aguirre in Ensenada Mexico (about an hour south of the border from San Diego). I had a very good experience and it was extremely reasonable. I paid $6,500 (plus travel expenses) for my open rny. Dr. Aguirre is a great person and has a lot of experience doing gastric bypass surgery. Lisa

I also had my surgery with Dr.Aguirre in Ensenada,Mexico. Wonderful Doctor. If I had *insurance* or *$100,000.00* I would still use Dr.Aguirre. He is super and is loaded with knowladge! Mine cost a toatal of $6,500.00 plus travel.
