Question:
What are qualifications for Dr. approval for teenager with BMI of 42?

I am a female teenager with a BMI of 42. I have talked to my parents about surgery options for obesity. They have encouraged me to research (as they will) on my own. I'm just wondering if there is a chance a doctor would perform this surgery on me.    — Jocelyn D. (posted on November 23, 2002)

On the day that I had surgery at Alvarado Hospital in San Diego, Dr. Whitgrove also did surgery on a 17 year old girl. I don't know what her BMI was, but I am sure if you contacted the Alvarado Hospital Center for Obesity Surgery they could answer some of your questions. Good luck.

you don't say how old you are and there is a huge difference, growth-wise, between a 13 year old and a 17 or 18 year old.

I just saw the photos of a girl named Nicole T.. She is a post op girl who is 16. you should find her profile and see if she can talk to you about it. Good Luck! She is in the photo gallery, like the 4th or 5th photo from the beginning.
