Question:
Growling stomach I thought was to be a thing of the past???
My sister had her surgery Nov 5th and doing good so far. But she said her stomach is growling and she feels hungry all the time. Has anyone else come across this? Is this normal? I thought I read that this was to stop after surgery. Your help would be appriciated. — crazybadbug (posted on November 10, 2002)

Hi, when I was first out I thought I would die of hunger ! My stomach
constantly growled, and / or rumble. Please tell your sis that she will
start feeling full when she starts eating foods like cottage cheese, but
she may be hungry a short time later.ie, a spoonful or two of cottage
cheese at 10 am, and then again around 11:30. Make sure that she gets her
protien drink in though,or she may lose some hair around month 4. LOL. Best
wishes

This subject was just brought up at a support meeting, the Nurse
Practitioner (a bypass pt herself) explained, that you "old"
stomach is still there, and when we eat it "expects" stuff to
come its way andpreparesby producing digestive juices, causing the rumblin'
and tumblin'that we hear. She says it takes 6 months for our old stomachs
to get the hint, but I am 7.5 months out and mine is noisier than ever!!!

Thanks for your responses. I am glad to hear it is not just her. And now
when my operation comes up next month I will know what to expect. Thanks
again!
