Question:
How do I know if I need my rings resized?
I've lost like 27 pounds and the rings slide around but I would feel stupid if I went to get them adjusted and they said "These don't need to be resized." How do you know? How much space should there be between your ring and your finger? One time the ring flew off when I flung my hand quickly. Or is there some kind of online sizer thing? — M. B. You can purchase little rubber rings that fit around the ring to make it
smaller. I found them at walmart. I used these until I was ready to get
all my rings sized. My jeweler charges $12 each for sizing. I did mine
from a size 9 to a size 7 1/2 and now need to do them again.

Jen just had hers resized again. I had my wedding band done too. Only lost
a couple sizes, I would of expected more. Maybe I hhave muscular fingers
from repairing machines? Jen made good use of those temporary ring bands.

I wouldn't wait too long. If they start to feel loose go in and have them
check you and use the sizers in the interm. I waited and waited and
procrastinated and almost LOST my rings this weekend. I was at a football
game and it was VERY cold. I moved my foot and felt something under my
shoes. Low and behold it was my ENGAGEMENT RING AND WEDDING RING!!! They
had fallen off and I did't even know it! Luckily they didn't fall down (I
was at the top of the bleachers) I almost cried. The morale here is GET
THE SIZERS!!!

As my wedding ring got looser and looser, I just took it off and put it
somewhere safe in the house. I would just buy cheapo CZ rings as I went
down sizes. I actually ended up going from a size 11.5 to a size 7.5. In
the last few months, I have stopped losing, and I finally had my wedding
bands officially resized. I love it!! It's so nice to wear real diamonds
again. I really wouldn't bother resizing all your jewelry as you go down
in sizes. It's expensive, and it weakens the metal. Just stop wearing
jewelry for a few months. (Just my opinion.)

I waited until I was down about 50 lbs before I had something done about my
engagement ring. I didn't actually have it resized yet because I'm still
anticpating losing another 40-50. My ring is pretty thick platinum so it
woud have been horrendous to resize and resize again. Luckily, my cousin
is a jeweler so he was able to help. He placed a smaller sized platinum
band inside the ring, which is adjustable, he also gave me the option of
placing these small platinum "balls" in the ring to prevent it
from slipping and sliding around.

I am 5 weeks post-op and my rings are starting to turn and tarting to come
off. I am going to go and get some of those clear sizers from wal-mart or
something. It is $25 for me to get my rings sized and I am going to wait
until I have lost all my weight. The sizers go around your ring and make
them moer snug. It's up to you. If they are falling off, then chances are,
they need to be sized. If you can afford to, have them sized whenever you
need to. But in my case, I don't want to have to pay now only to have to
pay to do it again later. Just something to think about. The sizers work
great!

You can go to a jeweler and have them put an adustable band on your rings.
I did that, they can even do just one that joins your engagement ring and
your wedding band together. The adjusters only cost about $5 each and can
be easily put on/taken off/ and readjusted as you continue to lose. Once
you have lost the bulk of the weight you want to lose, you can then have
your rings resized permanently. Resizing your rings often ends up
weakening the bands.

I knew it was time to resize my wedding band when my wife found my ring in
her glass of ice tea after she finished drinking it. It had fallen off
when I handed it to her and I never even knew it fell off! Better to be
safe than sorry. - Mike

I would advise to wait till your close to goal weight to resize your rings.
I resized them half way thru my weight loss and now I'm at goal and I need
to resize them again. Its not good for the rings to be manipulatied so many
times.

I wasn't as lucky as the other people who responded to your question. My
engagement ring fell off when I flushed the toilet back in April. Yes, it
went down the toilet and was gone. I was devastated. My darling husband
took my wedding band away from me and the next day took me to have it cut
down. Had to go from a size 9.5 to a 7. He also bought me a new
engagement ring. Bigger diamond! Told this technigue for getting a bigger
stone wouldn't work again so for me not to try it. I have now had to stop
wearing my rings again...I need them cut down again. I'm finally at a
stable weight, down a total of 135 lbs. but I'm going to wait a couple
months to be sure before I have them resized. But I'm not wearing
them...not worth the pain of losing one. Be careful...my advice is to try
the temporary solutions mentioned by others until you feel ready to have
them permanently resized then get them resized.

I don't wear rings but I had a link taken out of my watch. I wish I hadn't
waited so long as the face is scratched up from moving around on my wrist.

I was at my son's football game and was clapping when all of a sudden my
ring popped off my finger. I knew it was 'starting' to get loose, but I
had no idea it would just come off. I took it to the jeweler to be sized
along with my diamond tennis bracelet. It didn't cost anything for my
bracelet to be sized because it was still under a 2 year warrenty...but get
this...they told me it would cost $185 for my wedding ring /engagement ring
set to be sized! They said it was because it is soldered together and is
actually 3 bands...they have to take them all apart and then resize and
then put them back together. But still....$185 sounds crazy to me. So, I
decided to wait it out just to be sure that I won't have to have them sized
again!

You can get a 'sizing bar' put on the ring as a temporary fix. It slips
onto the ring and is adjustable and will make the ring tighter. Most
jewelers will do this for nothing while sizing costs money. I've had my
ring size one time already and it's loose again. So, I got a bar put on it
until I'm ready to have it resized.

When I first started out my ring size was 9 1/2. After losing 75lbs when I
was 5 months out, I had my rings resized to a 7. Got tired of using tape.
Now at 9 months out and losing 130 lbs my rings are lose again. I am 25lbs
from my goal weight. It costs very little to have a ring re-sized or
enlarged and its worth the money if your rings mean alot to you!!! Take
Care!!
