Question:
Adjustable Lap Banding,Four years later, just not working.
Is anyone else out there having the same problem. During my first 9 months I lost almost 100 pounds, but had complications when the stitching slipped and Dr. had to go back in and stich up back side of stomach. I have not been able to get back into weight loss mode again and in fact have gained back 75 pounds. Even with exercise and diet, I just can't get there. I've had numerous adjustments, but Dr. says he has me as tight as he can get me, yet at times I can eat a full meal; sometimes not. Is there anyone doing any further studies? My Dr. is more concerned about his study results than he is with my health. — Angela P. (posted on September 17, 2002)

I encourage you to move on. Since your Lap Band isnt working get revised to
a RNY or other surgery. I am sorry it didnt work for you. The malabsorbtion
of a RNY will likely fix you and get the weight off.

How horrible! I feel terrible for you to be stuck with such a dud for a
doctor. It just doesn't seem right that your intake can fluctate so much.
Since you already have the band I'd suggest finding a new doctor if you
can. Someone who is more familiar with long term lap banding. I read once
a long while back about something the lap band does when it
"moves" into some type of tissue (I thought into a part of the
stomach layers) that it no longer works then and has to be revised. I'm
not any type of expert and really wish I could remember more of what that
was I read about. But I'd still see a doc who CARES. Maybe you'll find
someone who does both the band and the RNY? That way you'll get an honest
assessment of whether or not the band can be revised or if you'd be better
off doing the revision to an RNY. I wish you luck. Shelly

Hi! I am so sorry that you are having trouble with your band. It sounds
like you had your band placed during the US trials...alot of docs did not
know exactly how to do the band yet. I have you tried to contact Dr.
Rumbaut in Mexico. He is considered one of the best band surgeons in the
world.....
