Question:
I need help on what I should eat
I am one of the post-op's who can eat almost anything. My weight loss is slow and I have not thrown up in the last week. However I have found that I can eat almost anything even some sweets, I can eat cookies and Ice cream and even cake. I know this is bad but I actually can only take about 1 bite or 1 spoon full after that I have this funny feeling in my stomach. I use to throw up on a daily basis and I don't now. I have never dumped but I am a slow loser. Is this because of what I am able to eat? Don't get me wrong I can eat whatever but DO get quite full off of 3 bites of anything and I don't even think I am getting in the necessary nutrition. My dietitian told me to get in 60grams of protein and I try real hard but 60grams is like eating a whole steak and more. Can someone please give me an idea on what to eat...Also does anyone know of a good morning cereal that is low in carbs? And is eating fruit a good idea? — Lovett (posted on June 24, 2002)

Cereal~Kashi Go-Lean has protein in it, plus the milk would add protein.
String cheese for snacks would help in the protein department too. I go to
fitday.com and put in my foods and it tells me how many calories, fats,
carbs and protein totals I have each day. It's pretty self explanitory and
also free. Tuna is a good protein source too. I also use leftover chicken
breast and put some mayo in it and sort of puree it with my hand wand mixer
and spread it on crackers or celery. That is good protein too.

Tina, I always marvel at those that eat so little-3 bites and your full??
Did I read that right? You don't say how far out you are, but I would
guess not too far, since you had trouble throwing up alot until recently.
I, too, am one that can eat just about anything. However, just because we
can eat sweets, doesn't mean we should substitute for our protein,
especially if you are only getting in 3 bites per meal. So you should
concentrate on protein. Have you tried scrambled eggs with melted cheese,
or cheese on crackers? If you can tolerate chicken and fish, they are
chock full of protein in small amounts. To snack, try nuts, soy chips,
beef jerky-all have protein in them. If you can't get 60 grams from food,
try the protein shakes-you can doctor them up so that they are thick and
fruity.
