Question:
I get in around 580 - 700 Calories a day, on the 17th of this month it will be 7
months out. I started at 347 and now weigh in at 260. I am thinking I am a slow loser. So I am now wondering if I am not getting enough food in. Some day I feel Satisfied. Other days I feel as if I am starving. My first meal is at 11, because I break my hours into every four. which means. 11,3,7. No snacks. The only time I snack is on the weekend. My snack is air popped popcorn. Am I eating enough? Should I trick my body sometimes and get in 1000 cal? Please help — Lucy B. (posted on May 14, 2002)

Hi, Lucy -
At 7 mos I probably took in about the same amt of cals, but I supplemented
w/3 whey protein drinks/day. Be sure that you take in enough protein and
fluids as that can slow your loss down if you are deficient in either.
remember that you have lost 87lbs! Congrats and good luck!

When I was 10 weeks post-op I asked my surgeon how many calories I should
get each day. His answer shocked me - he said I should get between 1000
and 1400 calories every day. I was barely getting 500. He made me promise
to try to get my caloric intake up to at least 1000 because, according to
him, I would not lose if I didn't. I still don't maintain 1000 every day
but I try to get as many protein calories as I can and then add some
veggies and fruit. When I weighed at his office last week (5 months, 1
week post-op), I had lost 100 pounds. So it seems that upping the calories
has helped. Be sure you are getting lots of protein.
