Question:
Went in for 2wk followup and was in trouble by doctor. I don't understand?
After 2 wks I've lost 17lbs. More than I'd ever dream of. When I saw my doctor he didn't look at my incision or ask how I was feeling he simply said "what did you eat that you weren't suppose to". I said nothing really. But he didn't think I should have had potatoes. I started talking about some issues I was having and he said it was too early for food issues. So he is sending me to a psychatrist and put me on pureed veggies and fruit for a month. I'm suppose to go to pureed and gradually increas to full solid over the next two wks. Then he went on to say how he sorry my child hood was so bad but it was no exuse. I never blame my weight on that. I just don't know what to think. Any idea. I can't do the veggies and fruit thing. I'm a meat eater. Help. — Vickie G. (posted on May 12, 2002)

What?!?! 17lbs in two weeks is WONDERFUL!!! From what you have said, your
doc's response seems harsh. I dont think I had lost that much at two weeks
and my doc was happy with my progress. Now 7 mos later I am just 3lbs from
losing 100!!!!!

I would not be comfortable with a Dr, who asked me not to have protein for
a month. I certainly would not be comfortable with his harshness. Is
rhere another surgeon you can use for followup.

Seventeen pounds is great! You said you love meat, have you been eating
meat? I am just 4 days post-op and have been placed on a "liquid
diet" for two weeks... but this includes: grits, mash potatoes,
cottage cheese, sugar free jellos, sugar free puddings, oatmeal, broth, and
juices. Your doc seems to have gone off in the deep end... I would
seriously take the time to research another doc to conduct my follow-ups...
that is if we are hearing the complete story.

I had lost 20 pounds in the first 2 weeks and my Dr. thought that was
great. It sounds like you are right on with your loss. And I don't mean to
question your Dr, but too early for food issues??? Aren't food issues what
got us here in the first place? I also agree with the other poster..why
would he ask you to not have protien for a month? It is so essential to us
right now. I wish you the best, it sounds like you are doing great.

Hi, Vickie. Don't mean to harp on your doc, but he sounds like a total
quack. 17 lbs. in two weeks is fantastic!!! Keep in mind that you don't
have to have much of a nutritional background to become a doctor. If I
were you, I would rely on info from this site before I would trust your
doctor! He sounds like a ding-dong.
