Question:
Why am I getting UTI's
I am 9mths post op and have been getting UTI's Ive had 5 of them since the surgery. I have had cellulitis and a prior yeast infection from the antibiotic they gave me to cure the cellulitis. I drink at least 96 0z of water and know all of the other thing why they are caused. I am conserned that it could be something else thats wrong? Is there a preventitive medicine, and is this caused by WLS? Please any info is appreciated. — renee P. (posted on May 4, 2002)

Sorry, I cannot answer your question, but I am curious. What kind of
antibiotic can be prescribed to cure cellulitis?

i know this is a bit personal but i was wondering if you are having more
frequent sexual relations. when i weighed less i had frequent uti's. then i
gained so much weight my hubby and i practically quit having sex. i never
got uti's then. now that i have lost 45 lbs, things are picking up in the
bedroom and i am curious to see if the uti's return. just a thought. the
old "honeymoon cystitis" syndrome.

My wife has been very prone to UTI's both before and after WLS. She is very
sensitive to antibiotics causing colon problems. She takes cran-actin,
which is a cranberry extract that has knocked out UTI's in a matter of days
before. Many people recommend taking it as a UTI prevention as well for
those prone to it.
To Previous Poster about cellulitis. I am sure she is referring to the
cellulitis that is a severe bacterial infection of the skin rather that
lumpy fat under the skin.

Some people are prone to them. One way to rule out if they are indeed
caused by sexual relations, is to urinate immediately after having sex! No
cozy time in the bed, no "I'll go later" ... get up and run to
that bathroom and go. Go hard. Completely clean and dry yourself in that
area. More than often you'll get a twinge again, do not ignore it- go
AGAIN. Go as many times as you feel the urge after sex. After having UTI
after UTI and just figuring it ran in my family (2 sisters,Mom all got
them) I finally took the advice of my Doctor (see above) and I have NOT HAD
a UTI in 7 or more years. I shared my tip with my family and none of THEM
have had any more either. It is also true that Antibiotics can give them
to you as well.......
