Question:
Individual Insurance Co-Pay: Is this Usual?
I've been shopping for individual insurance to cover my surgery and so far I've found one that will cover about 75% of the cost, for 239.00 per month, with a six month waiting period for the surgery. Has anyone heard of a better deal? Michelle — Michelle S. (posted on April 8, 2002)

I'm in Michigan and I looked up your profile to find you're in CA. My
individual coverage is through BC/BS and I pay $215.00 a month. Mine
covers 85%. However, my copay is 15% with a Co-pay maximum of $500. So
when my copay reaches $500., they cover everything else 100%. With my
policy, if you've you've recently exhausted your COBRA benefits, you don't
have medicare or medicaid, and you didn't lose your last coverage due to
nonpayment, the pre existing condition clause is waved.
I have the Blue Cross Blue Sheild Traditional Blue Individual Policy. I'm
not sure how different the "rules" are in CA verses MI, but it
may be worth checking into.
