Question:
If a person overeats and fills the pouch, does it back up into the esphogas?

If this happens how does one overfill the pouch? Also when the connection is made from the pouch into the intestine (the stoma) is the stoma the same size in diameter as the intestine? Is the intestine narrowed down to make a small stoma or is it the same size as before when the intestime connected to the old stomach? My surgeon does not use a band or anything as far as I know to make the intestine smaller in diameter. If that is the case, won't the pouch empty quickly? This is for the rny surgery.    — [Anonymous] (posted on February 24, 2002)

Hi. The stoma size is smaller in diameter than your small intestine. Most surgeons have a specific size that they like... 10mm is the number I've heard kicked about. This is much smaller than the original passage from the stomach to the small intestine. This is what keeps bypassers feeling full on such small amounts of food. JK, RN

Usually I don't over eat. But when the bubbly white foam starts coming up in the throat, I know I did. ;)
