Question:
What is the best cream or jell to use on your scar?
I am 3 weeks post op and my scar looks almost invisible, its so skinny! (My surgeon is the best!!!) but I was wondering since, now all the steri strips have fallen off, what is the best cream or jell to use on it because its starting to get a little dry and itchy! lol...thanks in advance — Miko P. Miko, I can't tell you about "the best" I'm in no way qualified..
but when my scar started itching and things, I used "Bag Balm" on
it.. It's in a little green container .. you can buy it at any Walgreens or
K Mart for $6.00 and it lasts a long time! (almost any K mart or
walgreens.. I don't know anywhere else, cause I've always bought it there)
Don't freak, it says it's for cow's chapped utters, but my PCP recommends
it for almost any skin abrasion, burns, irritation, rashes.. (especially
those nasty apron rashes) .. Good luck to you :)

I am in no way an expert, however, I have heard that plain ole Neosporin
works wonders on scares. It helps them heal faster as well as helps in
fading the scar. It certainly can't hurt.

I use Mederma, recommended by my foot doctor last summer. He said it's the
best on the market, and it smells good too.
It's a bit pricey $13 a tube @ WAlmart, I've bought 2 tubes in 2 months.
My scars look really good.

I use Scargo, but not til 4 weeks post-op. Faded the color and keeps the
skin supple.

I've heard that Cocoa Butter with Vitamin E works well. It keeps the skin
soft and pliable too. You can purchase that at any pharmacy (over the
counter) or WalMart, etc.

Go the local health food store and inquire about carrot oil, it will make
the scar shrink and condition the skin also.
