Question:
WLS, Hypothyroid and PCOS
I am in the process of approval for WLS, I have hypothyroidism and PCOS. I am worried that with the combination of the two, I won't be successful with the surgery. Has anyone post-op had BOTH and how successful have you been? Any info would be great! Thanks in advance. — Amy S. (posted on February 12, 2002)

I have both and have been successful in losing about 165 lbs. in 11 months.
Don't worry - WLS will work for you just fine.

I am losing slower because of the pcos and because I carry my weight in my
butt and thighs, and don't exercise like I should. I have hypothyrodism
too. Even so, I am losing and am so glad I had this surgery!
Take care

Honey, don't worry... just keep to your diet and you will be fine. I have
PCOS and hypothyroidism (and a lot of other crap) and at 2 months out have
lost 98 lbs!!! You CAN do it!!! The more you worry about it, the less
likely you are to lose... strange but true!! :) Email me and we can talk
more about it!

I just have the PCOS, and I consider my weight loss very slow/ not as much
as others. Still, I did HAVE weight loss- so I am happy with what I
got....

I also have PCOS and hypothyroidism, and at almost 9 months post op have
lost 109 pounds, 2 more till goal! I am so happy with the weight loss and
think it has been pretty rapid! I actually have to go get my synthroid
levels adjusted because I am on the same dosage as I have always been on
and seem to be pretty hyper now! It's good for energy, but it finally
dawned on me that I probably need a little less now that I am thin. Good
luck nd don't worry, you will do great! Best of luck
