Question:
Has anyone else had keloiding of your WLS scar?
My pcp looked at my scar from open rny--10/16/01. The scar is starting to form a very red slightly raised scar tissue. He recommended a dermatologist that will inject something into it to keep it from raising. Has anyone ever had this? What does it do for you? Do the shots hurt? Thanks for any input. I have been using Mederma and it seems to make my scar sore! I have used vit e ointment each night and that seems to help most. I have tried to find SCARGO and can't find it anywhere. If you have had the shots into the scar, please help. How many injections did you have to have? — Marilyn C. (posted on February 9, 2002)

Hi Marilyn, I don't personally have any experience regarding keloids, but I
distinctly remember that Michelle Curran has. She often speaks of this and
also of the injections that she received into her scar to help it flatten.
Hopefully, she'll see this question (Michelle are you out there?). If not,
maybe you could e-mail her. Hope this helps. Shelley

I just checked the library and here is the page with some of her answers on

Sheesh, you gotta copy me? Staple line disruption, now keloid? What's a
mother to do?! Yes, Keloid Kween here. I had my TT scar injected,
well-Scrago'd, nice 'n flat, fairly faded, though still wide. And then,
had the revision & got a shiny new keloid worse than the first one! So,
the derma & I were ready to start shots on week 5 post-op. MOST of the
scar is fine, not too wide, now flat & Scargo'd pale, just one stubborn
place that we are still injecting. It may take more than one set of
injections. My keloids have drawn up and look all puckered, as well as
burning & itching & impairing mobility. So, we shoot them until
they mind. Scargo will not undo a keloid, only help fade the scar &
make it softer, more pliable-on the surface. If you use it on a keloid w/o
injections, you have a soft faded keloid!
