Question:
Last night I ate my 1/4 cup of food.

And then as I was putting supper up I ate a spoonful of dinner (rice and baked chicken cut up). It wasn't an enormous spoonful but it was larger than I normally eat since surgery. After swallowing I felt poorly for a few minutes and then was fine. I am terrified that I have stretched my pouch or something...HELP! I am 7 weeks postop.    — [Anonymous] (posted on February 5, 2002)

Hi..I'm pretty sure it takes more than that to stretch the pouch out. I'm 11mos out. I felt that way the first time I had a watermelon seed go down. It all came out fine (LOL).I'm 11mos out. Open RNY God Bless

You're reaction sounds exactly like mine the first time I really ate something. I felt like if I ate more than a couple tablespoons, something was wrong. And the first time I ate too much, I was sure I ripped open my staple line. It would take a lot more than that to stretch your stomach however repeatedly stuffing yourself is how it happens. You are fine! Best of luck!

I too have had similiar incidences where I thought I had stretched my pouch too much, etc. It is those times when you eat "one bit too much" that you are reminded, ever so uncomfortably, that you did have the surgery and have not ruptured your suture line. It is normal for your stomach to stretch some, but if you are following a somewhat regimented program, you should be fine. Good luck.
