Question:
Pre-Op, Lost 13 pounds, Help!!!!
Hi I am Pre-op and everything is starting to move forward. I did my informational meeting and will be doing some pre-op tests within the next month or so. The problem is that I lost 13 pounds due to the flu 3 weeks ago. I can't seem to put it back on and now my bmi is 39. I know, who complains about LOSING weight? But now I am worried they won't qualify me! Any help is appreciated. Thanks! — [Anonymous] (posted on December 13, 2001)

STOP dont panic. Has your height been measured? Slouch and that effectively
makes you heavier. Wear heavy clothes and carry rolls of coins in your
pockets. Eat a HUGH meal before being weighed! The testing will likely turn
up co morbidities like sleep apnea that will help your approval too. Your
safe, just remember these tips.

My BMI is 39.2. When I had my initial evaluation in May, I was concerned
because I was under the standard BMI of 40. I have a list of
comorbidities, but I did not consider them life threatening. I therefore
was concerned I would not meet the requirements for RNY. I was approved and
surgery is in 2 weeks. I think it is a combination of you BMI and your
comorbidities.

Has your insurance company already approved you? If so, you probably don't
have anything to worry about.
