Question:
Has anyone had RNY with a BMI under 40 & Barret's Esophagus?
My sister has a BMI in the high 30's and co-morbidities of Barret's Esophagus and high blood pressure. She also has some stress incontenance and family history of heart disease and stroke. Just wondering if insurance would accept the lower BMI with these co-morbidities. — Mary S. (posted on September 6, 2001)

Yes, insurance companies will approve the surgery with a BMI of less than
40. If you have a BMI of 35 and co-morbidities, you can be approved. It is
going to be a lot harder to get approved. You might have to go through an
appeal process. Your sister has the right to live a normal healthly life. I
hope that you two fight for it. May God bless your sister =) Take care.
