Question:
Does saliva fill up the pouch?

I am currently pre-op and have been "practicing" chewing food to a mushy consistency. What I have noticed is that, in doing this, I produce and swallow a lot of saliva. I am wondering if, when I am post-op, this saliva will fill up the pouch and make me feel full when I haven't actually filled the pouch with food? Thanks!    — marcy J. (posted on August 13, 2001)

It's good you are practising chewing your food thoughly now. I did the same and found it was good to have the pratice. The answer to your question is no.

I don't think so. For me, even liquids like soup go right through my pouch so I'm sure my saliva is too. One thing that did fill my pouch and make me nausious is sinus drainage. I had my surgery in February so as I was recovering spring came along and brought the allergies. Don't worry. It's all worth it.
