Question:
Will the weight loss be less now?
I had a VBG in 2000, and am sccheduled to have a revision to RNY on May 31,2005. Can I expect to lose enough weight to reach my goal, which is about 150 pounds. I only lost about 50 from the initial surgery. I have heard though that once you have a revision you lose much slower. Just wanted to get other views on this. Thank you for your time. — MS. A. I had VBG then a revision and never had a problem losing slower. Reached
goal and have done great! I think thats not really true about being
slower. VBG is slower than RnY weight loss tho. Don't fear, you will do
great and since you have had a previous WLS ... you will be more aware
about the this is a tool. Enjoy the ride. Its awesome!!!!!! Details on
my surgeries are under profile.

I believe the losing slower related to having a proximal RNy and then
having the limb moved down lower for greater malabsorption. Since the VBF
does not have any malabsorption with it and probably left a larger stomach
than the pouch you will end up with, you should get good results. Just
make sure the surgeon does a small pouch and at least a 100cm bypass and
preferably a 150cm bypass. You could go longer but most likely do not need
to. The longer the bypass the greater the malabsorption issues can be.
I'm finally settling out but my 2nd year PO was a struggle with a number of
low levels. At 26 months we have found the right levels of meds to keep
things happy. I have to take extra zinc and vitamin D. I've also had 4
days of iron infusions two different times to get my hemoglobin to get into
the normal range. Hopefully it will stay now that I'm not having any more
PS for a while. Time will tell. My calcium tends to be borderline also,
but typically staying slightly above normal now.

Please research the DS before you have a revision to an RNY. I believe the
DS will give you better long-tern results.

I had a vbg 6 years ago, i just had a rny 10/8/05, I have lost 105 lbs so
far. I don't think that is slow at all. I am estatic. It's the best
decision I have ever made. I feel 100% better...I say go for it.

Before you revise to an RNY, you may want to consider DS. I've researched
for a while now and the DS has better outcomes, no worries about dumping,
obstructions, and a much better record on re-gaining.
